TORTOISE & HARE FARM
We are Brett and Krista, owners and operators of Tortoise & Hare Farm. Our passion for fresh local food has led us on a journey from Chicago to our new home in North Muskegon. We believe in farming with the most ecologically friendly practices possible. Our primary focus is building soil health through compost and minimal tillage methods, as well as supporting diversity of wildlife on our farm including native plants, pollinators, and beneficial insects. Although we are not certified organic we follow all organic guidelines, as well as implementing sustainable and no-till practices, to work with nature and not against it. In this way, we seek to provide the healthiest food directly to our customers and build a deeper connection to what we eat and where it comes from! We grow a wide variety of vegetables without the use of synthetic fertilizers or pesticides to offer the best quality produce to our Muskegon and Grand Rapids communities.
Our CSA:
CSA stands for Community Supported Agriculture. This model has been used for decades to bring small farms and their customers together in a mutually beneficial arrangement. As a member, you pre-pay for the season and receive a weekly share of freshly harvested produce. This benefits our farm by allowing us to plan for the upcoming season, and receive needed income early in the year, when many of our supplies are purchased. Beyond the produce you have the chance to connect on a deeper level with your food, how it is grown, and the people that grow it. Your commitment to supporting a local farm lets you put your dollar towards a better way of producing, selling, and eating healthy food.
Farm Card CSA:
This year we are excited to offer a market style CSA option for those who would like a more flexible experience. Simply choose the amount you’d like to put on your farm card and receive an additional 10% to spend on your favorite Tortoise & Hare veggies/flowers/eggs at our farm stand or farmer markets throughout the season!
